Dare to step out of line!

September 21, 2009 by Giulietta Nardone

Hey inspirational renegades,

I just love all the words associated with being a life rebel. We need more folks custom designing their own lives. It’s not even keeping up with the Joneses, it’s following the Joneses. Why do we do it? For the longest time I didn’t even question it. Talk about scary.

It feels good to step out of line, to stop following the pack that’s stampeding over some conformist cliff. Yes, it takes bravery at first, but soon enough it will become second nature or make that true nature, there’s nothing secondary about following your own heart.

Custom designing your own life can start small. Say “no” when you want to say “yes” or vice versa. This will free up time to do things that matter to you. It’s not selfish to enjoy your own life! The planet would be a much happier place if people filled their days doing things they loved. Lots of overt & covert anger out there. That tells me people feel powerless to custom design their own lives.

What one small thing can you do differently today?

I like the idea of customizing our own lives. Why do we give so much power to others? I’m going to let this idea of “customizing” stew a little in my brain…see where it takes me. Thanks, Giulietta!

    Hi there!

FTRB, I learned something from you! To go to others blogs and thank them for stopping by. I used to just do it on my blog, but your going the extra blog mile for me really made a difference!

Pamela, I don’t know why we give so much power to others. We are born powerful and little by little give it away in exchange for acceptance? security? Then our lives feel flat. Try to take it back little by little. Makes for an adventurous life!

    Muse thx,
    Giulietta

My yoga teacher always liked to challenge his students to be culture jamming “radical yogis”! Your post today reminded me of that, Thanks!

I don’t know what to add to your excellent advice. I agree with what you say about starting small. Not just because the people closest to you may have difficulty adapting to your change, but it’s helpful for you to notice and process the difference each customization has on your life so you can appreciate it, see how it works for you, and see what other alterations it inspires. If that makes sense!
For example, recently, I have determined which projects need the most focus right now, and allowed myself to put others on the back burner and not worry too much about them.

Sally, great point to empathize with those closest to you when making life customizations. Didn’t think of that myself, so you did have something important to add! Congrats for letting go of certain projects …

    See you! Giulietta
