Take Back Your Life!

Do You Take Enough Chances?

October 17, 2014 by Giulietta Nardone

“A lifetime isn’t forever, so take the first chance, don’t wait for the second one! Because sometimes, there aren’t second chances! And if it turns out to be a mistake? So what! This is life! A whole bunch of mistakes! But if you never get a second chance at something you didn’t take a first chance at? That’s true failure.”

~ C. Joy Bell

I love taking chances, especially emotional because I find those are harder than taking physical or or financial ones. Trying something new that pushes me emotionally keeps me feeling alive and kickin’. Has really helped me step out of my protective shell aka prison.

But I know that isn’t the norm. Folks have been conditioned to be frightened of taking chances, of trusting their own guts, of taking leaps into the unknown.

Yet, the irony is that life is one BIG unknown, so why we get afraid of the unknown inside the unknown can get perplexing.

People seem to be terrified everywhere of doing something new, of breaking some tradition, of making someone angry. I am convinced most of the strife in the world happens when folks feel so bottled up by not taking chances that they explode and do horrible things to each other.

If you were living the life of your own dreams, I doubt you’d want to do that. You wouldn’t have time. Golly, can we spread art, music, writing, dance, photography and all other forms of creativity around the world?

Dance, for example, has always made me feel happy! When I was a young girl, I used to invite my relatives at parties to watch me dance. How fun is that? I’d put on the music and just danced all over the room, flailing myself every which way. Not a care in the world, other than to express myself. Who cared what they thought!

And I always speak at public events when given the opportunity. Getting up over and over has made me unafraid. I could get up anywhere in front of anyone and say something light and humorous, but insightful. Yet, I used to be terrified to speak in front of others.

Every day provides opportunities to take chances. I find that the more I take, the more powerful I feel. A lot of fear comes from not feeling like it’s okay to ask questions or stand up for yourself. If the  folks leading the parade don’t want to answer your questions, that’s the #1 reason to get up and ask questions!

A lot of fear comes from the fear of not asking what you want or not doing what you want.

Perhaps, ask yourself what chances you’d like to take, but do not. There are opportunities every day to take a chance on yourself, on life.

One local chance you could talk would be to join me for Wild Painting! Create With Abandon.
