Take Back Your Life!

Do You Feel Limitless, Like You Can Do Anything?

August 23, 2016 by Giulietta Nardone

“If you tell life what it has to be, you limit it, but if you let life show you what it wants to be it will open doors you never knew existed.”

-Unknown.

Like so many people, I used to feel that I had to follow a certain life plan to be living a “good” life. Do x, y and z and your life will be marvelous.

Well, I did x, y and z and it wasn’t marvelous. It felt phony, empty and meaningless.

Fortunately, a town hall on the verge of a demolition gave me the chance to let my life show me where it wanted to go. I grabbed that opportunity to save the building and followed it – a kind of blind faith – and just like the quote above it led me to places I didn’t no existed. It also led me to parts of myself I didn’t know existed. I emerged as the kind of person, I’d always wanted to be but didn’t think I was.

Funny, how I couldn’t even recognize myself covered with the grime of conformity. I thought I was something completely different and then spent my life battling that phony version of myself. What a waste of energy!

I’m really grateful that opportunity in my town presented itself. The more I let my life lead, the more fabulous opportunities presented themselves.

I discovered there are many ways to go through life, not just the one I had been presented with and the one we continue to present to young people. I almost find it criminal the way we “push” our young to live this certain kind of life, steering them away from what there life really wants for them.

Only leads to depression and unsatisfactory lives.

When I follow my own curiosities, life never lets me down. I feel more and more alive and more and more opportunities present themselves. I feel limitless.

Take my paintings. I spent a good eight years copying things. I had no real clue how to paint from the inside out. I kept thinking “only talented painters can do that.”

Then I took a drawing class and told the instructor I wanted to draw from my own imagination. He encouraged me to do that and shared that his college age artists had a real difficult time painting from their imaginations. Then I realized that America faced an epidemic of rusty imaginations.

Now, I often start painting and see where it goes. I might start to do something and then get it halfway done and say, “No, this is not what this painting wants to be.” Then it kind of paints itself as paranormal as that sounds.

That’s why I love acrylics, it is the perfect medium for adventurous, wild painting that takes you on a safari into yourself. You can’t make a mistake.

I found this terrific, limitless video of Meghan, a star of Born This Way on A&E. She calls it Don’t Limit Me. This young woman has done what so many people are afraid to do – just do it.

Kudos to her for living a limitless life! Perhaps, it will show you ways to make your own life more limitless … Most of it involves busting through the limited versions of you often created by others but locked into place by our own fears.

I created and sold a small painting called Limitless. It is a woman flying forward through the air. That is what you need to do. Believe you can fly and do it.

Enjoy!
